The top game publisher had a great fiscal quarter and to celebrate. They decided to layoff around 800 employees throughout its studios and offices. That number is just 8 percent of their total workforce. The mostly affected were in non-development studios.
The publisher’s revenue hit $7.5 billion at an all-time high in the company’s history. With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 as a battle royale game during the holiday season. As well as pushing expansions and newer but lesser video games out front. They were able to gain a 6 percent increase from the previous year of $7.02 billion in revenue.
With their press release, they stressed that the layoffs wouldn’t affect their development of new games. By strategically shifting around the leaderships roles and studios, they hope to reach an even greater fiscal year for 2019.
For the laid off employees, they have been given a cushion as they begin searching for other roles in the industry. Hopefully, some of these remarkable people can have the freedom now to create the next great hit.
