Today the electric motor company, Tesla, has announced a big upgrade to their charging network. Version 3 is a new architecture that allows concentrated charging to Tesla vehicles. No longer having shared power at a stall that lowers charging times. This allows faster charging while also Version 3 including a new cable design. The new design brings an updated cooling system that keeps large amounts of power at a optimal temperature. Tesla states that a Model 3 Long Range can receive in just 5 minutes, 75 miles of charge. With a little math, a Long Range currently has 325 miles so that’ll be around 20 minutes to finish a complete charge using the new system. However, the actual timing is subject to be confirmed until people have their hands on using V3.
In addition, an upcoming update to their vehicles that’ll increase range and speed. The new update will include an ‘on-route battery warmup’. Which Tesla states will ready your vehicle when navigation is set to a supercharger by having the best temperature set to receive the fast charge. This will also allow a reduction in charging times.
With these new updates, it makes sense as the newly available $35,000 version of the Model 3 will increase more vehicles on the road. Lowering the charging times will allow more vehicles to be serviced when arriving at a supercharger station. Tesla will have a beta V3 Supercharger available in the Bay Area for beta testers of Model 3 owners. The update will also arrive to Model S and X in the coming months.
