Today at GDC 2019’s keynote, Google announced their game streaming service. Stadia, runs through Google Chrome as it allows graphically-intensive games to be played. Google joins the ranks of nVidia and Sony with their own competing software using their own hardware that streams to other devices. However, in Google’s case, which uses remote hardware to render the game and then send the stream to your Chrome browser. There is latency issues that could diminish game-play experience for Stadia users.
In terms of features, split-screen will be available using separate Stadia instances to minimize resources used. Shareable moments similar to PlayStation, Xbox and nVidia’s shareable recording software. Instant resume game-play is another handy feature for players that switch from device to device at the moment.
Developers have announced support for the new platform such as Ubisoft and Bethesda with Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and Doom Eternal, respectively. Epic Games have announced that Unreal Engine 4 will also support games using Stadia.
