What’s New At Google’s I/O 2019 Conference

For this year’s I/O Conference held by Google, there was many notable announcements. One such was the competitor to Apple’s iPhone XR, Samsung’s S10e and other affordable phones. The Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL, which has lesser specs than the main Pixel 3’s. However, it brings the pricing down to $399 and $479 respectively.

Google announced that their Home Hub line-up is being rebranded to Nest Hub as well as a price drop. The Nest Hub is now $129 from the $149 price of the old Google Home Hub. In addition, there is a Max version that has a bigger screen and a camera added. With the camera, it’ll recognize your face and customize its responses.

Applications are also receiving updates such as Google Lens, Duplex, Assistant and Maps. Google Lens will be able to calculate tipping and menu items to suggest the best course of action. Duplex was an application launched by Google last year, designed to help small businesses as an AI-powered customer service agent. Answering questions and scheduling services for clients. Google Assistant received several upgrades in its pipeline. Decreasing data usage of voice recognition and increasing its speed in responding. Waze received Google Assistant integration. A driving mode was added to Google Assistant to create a minimalist experience. Google Maps received an incognito mode that’ll hide your location history from being saved on your Google Account.

Finally, Android Q was announced as the next update to Android’s operating system. Q will finally bring dark mode to users after several years of it being held back or forgotten. It’ll work automatically to save battery life or can be set to default. A Focus Mode will be added that’ll help users be productive. Selecting the most distracting applications and turn them off till you switch Focus Mode off. In addition, a new swiping mechanism is being added that’ll mimic iPhone and Huawei’s back gesture. Removing the need of the back button and clearing valuable screen space. The new operating system is available in beta to select Android devices.
