Brightburn Review

Today, Brightburn has been released to theaters. The “what-if Superman was evil when he was a kid” film is interesting. Starring Elizabeth Banks, David Denman and Jackson A. Dunn as the titular character. We see early beginnings of young Brandon Breyer who discovers that he has superpowers. With a god-complex of what a pre-teen would have if they had superpowers. He becomes a rebellious kid against his parents and society. However, the cliche being for Brandon to discover the truth of being an alien and his whole life being a lie. His parents are terrified on what would be the result of this and finding his spaceship which calls to him nightly. In an alien language, he is told to “take the world” for himself. There is many brutal killings on what an evil pre-teen Superman would do with his powers. The use of his powers to stalk his prey ups-the-ante on the horror factor for the film. As a horror film, there is no happy ending and you are left with the satisfaction of the deaths you saw. The story doesn’t go beyond and you’re left dissatisfied with the conclusion.

It earns a 2 out of 5.
