Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark Review

Guillermo Del Toro is attached as the producer for the live-adaptation of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. Which opened this weekend with a fresh-faced cast. Starring Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush and Austin Zajur playing the four protagonists Stella, Ramon, Auggie and Chuck. On a spooky Halloween night, the four travel into the local haunted house where they find a deceased girls’ book containing scary stories of her life. Unfortunately, the group finds out that the book contains powers to bring the stories to life. Which results in the death of the featured character that is either Auggie, Chuck, Ramon or Stella. Throughout the film, they try to solve the mystery and end the evil before the last person of their group is gone. Despite it having a PG-13 rating, there are lots of great acting in the film with scares as well. The ending brings up the possibility of a sequel, with the book series having more stories available to adapt. It doesn’t sound like a bad idea however the resulting plot does make it like a closed loop with some strings left open.

It earns a 4 out of 5.
