Black And Blue Review

Black and Blue is an action-thriller film that stars Naomie Harris as the protagonist, Alicia West. Having returned to New Orleans and joining the police force after serving in the military. The film immediately raises the racial tensions between blacks and the police as Alicia is stopped by white officers looking for a common description of their perp that she fits as. However, Alicia is part of their force as the cops soon find out and the tensions from the encounter stay with her. After taking a double-shift and riding along Deacon Brown, played by James Moses Black. She responds to shots fired at a building that Brown enters and encounters Narc officers shooting drug dealers in cold blood. She is fired upon by the Narc officers after possessing an active body-cam that filmed the whole event. Frank Grillo plays as Narc officer Terry Malone who uses the corrupted justice system to gain money from. His group of dirty officers pursue Alicia for her body-cam and also uses local gang leader Darius played by Mike Colter to send a hit on her. The film throughout has lots of action and displays the racial tensions that is unfortunately common today between the police and minorities. However, the film’s ending is expected as the cliche of having the bad guy being put away as well as characters becoming redeemed for their actions.

It earns a 3 out of 5.
