Doctor Sleep Review

Released this week as both sequel to the Shining novel and the Kubrick film. Doctor Sleep follows the protagonist Danny Torrance, played by Ewan McGregor who has grown from the experiences that happened at the Overlook hotel. Using alcohol to suppress his Shining ability, he travels through the country from bar to bar. Finally arriving to a small town and meeting Billy Freeman played by Cliff Curtis. Becoming sober over the years and works at the local hospice developing a nickname from the patients as Doctor Sleep. As he eases dying patients from their fear or pain of death. Elsewhere, a young girl named Abra Stone played by Kyliegh Curran possesses the Shining ability. As she is hunted by a group of cult members known as True Knot that feed on children and their Shining. Being lead by Rose the Hat, played by Rebecca Ferguson. Danny and Billy protect Abra from the group as both sides incur losses. Leading to the climax that brings memories of the Shining as the audience follows Danny who undergoes flashbacks. Doctor Sleep appears as another candidate that can develop a cult following similar to Kubrick’s The Shining.

It earns a 4 out of 5.
