Today in San Francisco, Samsung announced their phones coming out for 2020. Their annual Unpacked event that focuses on their Galaxy S-Series being unveiled. Of course, they do have their other Unpacked events throughout the year but we’ll see till then.
Samsung introduced a successor to their Galaxy Fold, known as the Galaxy Z Flip. Which is similar to a fellow competitor, the Motorola Razr but unique in its own right. With a price of $1,380 USD that is lower than the Galaxy Fold’s $2,000 price tag. It has potential, given if it releases without any hitches. Samsung stated that they placed layers of fibers within the hinge to deter any damage. At its’ fully flat screen, it comes at 6.7 inches diagonally. However when folded, it has a small display at its exterior that allows certain functionality. Allowing the user to see notifications, battery life and take a quick selfie. It will become available to ship on February 14th.
Samsung announced the new generation among the Galaxy S line-up, the S20. Coming with three models that can support 5G. The Galaxy S20 comes at $999 with a 6.2 inch display. The Galaxy S20+ comes at $1,199 with a 6.7 inch display. The Galaxy S20 Ultra comes at $1,399 with a 6.9 inch display. All three are running with a 120hz refresh rate OLED screen. Unfortunately, that refresh rate requires a resolution down-scaling to 1080p to run. All three phones have at least three cameras. For the S20s, they come with a Ultra Wide 12 MP, Wide Angle 12 MP and Telephoto 64 MP rear cameras. For the front, it comes with a 10 MP selfie camera. However for the S20 Ultra, everything gets taken up a notch. Ultra Wide remains the same, Wide Angle gets bumped to 108 MP, while the Telephoto camera is lowered to 48 MP but receives a bump to its F-stop to 3.5 apart from the S20s F-stop 2.0. The S20 Ultra features an enhanced Space Zoom that all three phones carry while the S20s have up to 30X. The S20 Ultra can handle up to 100X that’ll allow insane quality to be maintained at such distance. Another thing is that the three phones can handle 8K video, which is insane. Most consumer cameras can’t record at such resolution yet unless you’re at a professional level. The phones will be available for pre-order on February 21st and out on March 6th.
Samsung announced a new generation of Galaxy Buds, with a plus sign added to the name. The Galaxy Buds+ are priced at $149 and have improved performance. Their sound quality has been improved as well as an additional microphone and a dual driver system. It can run up to 11 hours on a full charge and the case provided will bring another 11 hours. Pretty much a whole day of pure audio fun. Galaxy phones are able to charge the Galaxy Buds+ through a “PowerShare” feature by wirelessly charging from the rear of the phone. In just 4 minutes, the PowerShare charge provides another full hour. Galaxy Buds+ will ship on February 14th.
