Coming 2 America Review

Released this week, Coming 2 America is a sequel to the 1988 comedy original film. Starring Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and many more. Eddie Murphy reprises the role of Akeem Joffer (among of the other roles he plays) and Arsenio Hall as Semmi who’s Akeem’s best friend (playing several roles as well). Akeem continues his role as prince of Zamunda but his father, King Jaffe Joffer played by James Earl Jones is slowly dying. The King tells Akeem that once he passes, he will most likely be killed by General Izzi played by Wesley Snipes who rules Nextdoria. The royal shaman Baba tells Akeem that he actually has a son and could potentially save his skin from a hostile takeover. Akeem and Semmi head to Queens, New York to find and retrieve his long lost son. Once they do and manage to convince Lavelle Junson played by Jermaine Fowler and his mother, Mary Junson played by Leslie Jones to come with them to Zamunda. The film begins to focus on Lavelle as he learns the culture and royal duties of his paternal country. The film itself follows quite a few predictable plot twists and turns. Coming 2 America is enjoyable and worth a watch. Many of the original cast members return to this new entry and feels connected. With a runtime of 110 minutes, the film is available currently on Amazon Prime Video.

It earns a 3 out of 5.
