Attack on Titan ‘Sole Salvation’ Review

Released this week, episode 74 of Attack on Titan premiered titled ‘Sole Salvation.’ The episode focuses on Zeke’s upbringing as he struggled with his identity. His own parents pushing him to save Eldia by restoring the former empire, while his grandparents and rest of society pushing him to be a proud Warrior candidate. Zeke is a horrible performer but with great persistence catching the eye of one Warrior, Dr. Ksaver. The two form a close bond as Dr. Ksaver encourages Zeke despite appearing to be in last place. Knowing that his own parents are desperate for him to become a Warrior to go along with the Eldian restorationists’ plans. Unfortunately, Zeke overhears reports of the group is slowly being uncovered by Marleyean officials. Zeke urges his parents to stand down and keep a low-profile as a last ditch effort. Only for their delusions force Zeke to seek advice from Dr. Ksaver, who suggests to report his own parents to save himself. He does as we saw in a past episode, figuring that his own parents brainwashed him for years for their own sake. However, Zeke and Dr. Ksaver share several things in common as we jump to an older Zeke preparing to take the beast titan powers. Believing that sterilizing Eldians for future generations from ever being born. Dr. Ksaver urges him to seek the Founding Titan owner should be someone Zeke trusts and believes in the plan. Eren Jaeger in his fake Marleyean uniform appears in a flashback appearing to be that necessary person for Zeke. Back to the present, Levi overhears Zeke’s ramblings only to see him squirm around. Forcing the pin on the thunder spear attached to Zeke’s torso to explode. ‘Sole Salvation’ appears to be a filler episode as we near to the season finale. However, it adds more to higher stakes that Zeke believes no one but Eren could possibly understand his plan. Though, did Zeke survive that explosion, so close to his nape? More importantly, did Levi survive.

It earns a 3 out of 5.
