My Hero Academia ‘Long Time No See, Selkie’ Review

Released this week, episode 104 of My Hero Academia premiered titled ‘Long Time No See, Selkie.’ We transition from Midoriya and company to Ochaco and Asui’s hero work study. Elsewhere, Selkie and Sirius are in pursuit of a suspected ship transporting stolen Trigger, quirk enhancement drugs. Selkie rescues a team-up with Ryuku, the dragon hero which Ochaco and Asui are studying under alongside Nejire. Upon arrival, Selkie explains to them about the situation and Asui fondly remembers her time under his internship. During a lull, Selki has the young heroes to spend time at the beach as he and Ryuku believe the villains will move under the cover of darkness. Which does happen, Ryuku and Nejire provide air support, Selkie and Asui provide submarine support while the rest remain on the boat as all three groups search. The villains depart and have their Trigger drug at the ready incase they get spotted. Selki and Asui find the boat and transmit their location through echo location to Sirius, who has acute hearing from long distances. One of the villains uses Trigger to enhance their smokescreen quirk to make an attempt to escape. It only works against the boat and air support groups while Selkie and Asui can clearly see the boat’s hull and they board it. Quickly subduing two villains and search for the third. It turns out the hidden cargo that was wrapped concealed an seaplane. Selki and Asui and the air support are unable to keep up. Ochaco quickly brings an idea to Sirius to use a harpoon gun and her new grappling hook to gain the distance to catch up to the seaplane. She dispatches the last villain and struggles to control the plane. Ochaco uses her quirk to work together with Ryuku and Nejire to halt the plane and save the day. ‘Long Time No See, Selkie’ is a filler but enjoyable episode that brings back Selkie the seal hero and Sirius. Plus, we finally get a beach episode in My Hero Academia!

It earns a 3 out of 5.
