Released this week, episode 4 of The Book of Boba Fett premiered titled ‘The Gathering Storm.’ The episode starts off with Boba Fett in his bacta tank remembering his past. Scouting outside Jabba’s Palace in an attempt to retake his Firespray gunship (formerly Slave I) but is deterred by the countless guards. Late at night, he sees explosions off in the distance and goes out to investigate. Finding a mortally wounded Fennec Shand, he rescues her and takes her to a mod shop. The doctor equips her with a mod to replace her internal organs. Afterward, Shand wakes up and is surprised to find the long-believed dead Boba Fett to have survived and saved her. He explains his plan to retake his gunship and Shand agrees to help with the mission which will pay her debt to him. The two sneak into the palace taking a few droids before being found by the guards and a shootout occurs at the hangar. Shand takes out numerous guards as Boba readies the ship and tries to find a way out of the hangar. She manages to get onto the ship and takes out the counterweight to the hangar’s gate, releasing it and they quickly escape. Despite Shand stating she’ll leave, she decides to stay with Boba as he wants to take care of a few things. Taking out the bikers that destroyed the Tusken camp and searches the Sarlacc Pit in hopes of finding his armor. Unfortunately unaware that Jawas took his armor while he remained unconscious. Back to the present, Boba is now fully healed from his injuries and explains to Shand that he’ll pay a visit to Mos Espa. There, the Black Krrsantan is drunk and enraged at the sight of happy Trandoshans playing a parlor game at the Sanctuary. Attacking them and pauses for a moment when Garsa Fwip requests to release the Trandoshan he’s holding by wiping off his debt at the Sanctuary. Unwilling, he rips off an arm off the Trandoshan and leaves as Boba Fett was present during the fight. Outside, Boba asks him that he’s yearning for a job which Black Krrsantan appears to agree. Back at the Palace, Boba has dinner with the three crime families that worked under the Hutts and Fortuna. Despite some disagreements and unwillingness to fight for Boba, they agree to remain neutral in the upcoming war. Later, Boba and Shand talk about how to give themselves an advantage. Boba tells Shand that the issue isn’t money but muscle and Shand states that she probably knows where to find some. Hint, Din Djarin’s theme music plays in the background as the episode ends.
‘The Gathering Storm’ is a great episode that continues the story of Boba Fett as we learn how he and Fennec Shand finally meet. We also learn how he recovers his Firespray ship and Shand decides to remain loyal to Boba. By episode’s end, we return to the present and could hope given by the crime families word that they’ll remain neutral. Proving Boba’s desire to rule with respect rather than fear, something he continues to repeat throughout the series. Having gained the Black Krrsantan and teasing the returning of Din Djarin, possibly even the Mandalorians now under his control. The gathering storm is indeed going to be a huge war on Tatooine. Unfortunately, the show remains in neutral ground in the demographics towards children and adults alike. Given the previous episode’s issue of toning down the seriousness that appeared in prior episodes by the appearance of nearly out of character thugs now working for Boba Fett. It’s understandable to stay in a balanced ground, even with some of the choices that appeared in this episode as well. Overall, it’s a fun series to enjoy for Star Wars fans as the tensions continue to rise for Boba Fett.
It earns a 3 out of 5.
