Released this week, episode 78 of Attack on Titan premiered titled ‘Two Brothers.’ With the fall of Zeke’s Beast Titan after being shot by General Magath at the nape, it’s realized that Zeke is still alive. Eren’s Attack Titan limps his way towards the Beast Titan but Galliard bites onto Eren’s calf. The Attack Titan viciously beats Galliard until General Magath manages to fire taking out one of the Attack Titan’s arm off. Before another shot can be fired, Floch and several Jaegerists fight the Cart Titan, giving Eren time. Back to Zeke, he’s prepared to scream to transform the Eldians that ingested his spinal fluid into titans but is interrupted by Eren, Falco and Colt. Explaining that Falco had accidentally ingested Zeke’s spinal fluid and pleading him to allow Falco, Colt and Gabi to run far enough to avoid being affected by the scream. Zeke at first considers it but decides that the sacrifice must be made. Colt hugs Falco tightly as every Eldian in Shinganshina that ingested his spinal fluid transforms into titans. Colt is blasted by Falco’s transformation with Gabi nearby crying in shock. Reiner, having attempted to stop Eren from getting closer is attacked by Falco in titan form. Making both Reiner and Eren uncomfortable, but Eren decides to take advantage of the situation. Elsewhere, Marleyean forces are overwhelmed and surprised by the sudden appearance of titans. Mikasa and Armin deal with the Cart Titan while Connie and Jean help Eren against Reiner. Another shot manages to be fired at Zeke which appears to be the final blow. Eren isn’t too concerned as he sees through the ruse, he freezes Reiner and runs on foot towards Zeke. Unfortunately, Gabi manages to compose herself and readies her anti-titan rifle at Eren. Firing a shot that dismembers Eren’s head, shocking Zeke, Connie and Jean. Somehow, Eren lands on Zeke’s hands and we transition to. The Paths, where Zeke had been waiting for Eren to wake up there. Founder Ymir, a young girl seen previous episodes in there appears and walks towards the two brothers. Zeke tells Eren to follow the plain but Eren reveals that he lied in agreeing to do such a wicked plan. Shocking Zeke, but isn’t completely shock as he also reveals that since Eren took so long to wake up. Zeke had figured a way out of being tied from denouncing war and is able to order Founder Ymir himself without needing Eren. Shackling Eren with chains and Zeke once again believing that Eren is still brainwashed under their father. Explaining that he’ll help him free.
‘Two Brothers’ is quite an episode in both name and content. Colt and Falco having to deal with the sudden threat of Zeke transforming everyone into titans. Zeke and Eren struggling to make contact to enact any plan at this point. Porco Galliard being haunted by his brother’s decision to allow Reiner to become the Armored Titan, giving him the middle finger in the end by sacrificing himself to Falco Titan. However, everything freezes in time and space as we transport ourselves into the Paths. The long awaited goal by our two primary brothers. However, both of the two betray one another in their own plans and only time will tell what will happen. Will Founder Ymir give Zeke his desired euthanization of Eldians, or something else come up? The time is ticking, even though itself is frozen on the battlefield.
