Attack On Titan ‘Sunset’ Review

Released this week, episode 82 of Attack on Titan premiered titled ‘Sunset.’

With the colossal titans continuing to move away from Paradis. Several Eldians have become injured or killed by the collateral damage. Military Police are in disarray but are attempting to keep some form of order by rescuing survivors and aiding the injured. Hitch, one of the Military Police discovers wet footprints that leads her to an encounter with a weakened Annie Leonhart. A tense standoff between the two with vague threats results in Hitch taking Annie to the stables nearby. Annie needing her to help to somehow get back to Marleyan to save her father. She reveals that over the years, she overhead Hitch and Armin talking which gave her somewhat enough information to be aware of the present situation. Annie also talks about her past of being abandoned and adopted by her father. One who treated her as tool to make her a Warrior candidate and bring himself a better life. It wouldn’t be until the day she’s set to go off on her mission to Paradis all those years ago, revealing to her that he wants her to come back and he had always seen her as his daughter. Shocking a indifferent Annie, now having the only desire to come back to a father regardless of what the world is going through. On Liberio, Eldians plead for Marleyan guards to set them free as they’re the only ones that saw Eren Jaeger’s warnings and tell them to flee as well. The guards believe it’s a ruse as things at Liberio is tense for everyone. Elsewhere, Armin and Mikasa have a conversation about what to do. With Armin determined to rescue Falco from Connie as his idea is not what is needed at the moment. Adding in somewhere in Shiganshina, Gabi says her farewell with the Braus family as she prepares to rescue Falco. Back to Mikasa, who is feeling clueless on what she needs to do with Armin telling her to figure it out herself because there’s so much chaos going on. We then transition to the fort where Commadant Shadis is pleaded by his recruits to escape from the approaching Jaegerists but accepts his fate. Somewhere in the fort, Floch demonstrates on what happens to a disobedient Volunteer as he demands them to join the cause or die. Jean is helpless in the situation but is tired from fighting as Floch tells him with the Rumbling ongoing. There no longer will be any need. Mikasa just appears as the volunteer is killed and Jean begins to slowly listen to Floch’s words while seeing Onyankopon’s disappointment in him. Mikasa asks Floch about the fate of Hange and Levi, who tells her that they were killed by Zeke. The credits begin rolling but we see somewhere on Paradis, Piecke and General Magath seeing the countless Colossal Titans marching off. Hange appears to them and is nearly killed but they explain that they’re unarmed and Levi is severely injured as he lies on a wooden cart. After the credits, Connie and Falco are enroute to enact the plan and its revealed that Falco has amnesia. The two has their thoughts revealed to us a tense situation as one is drowning in guilt while the other fears of being discovered as a Warrior.

‘Sunset’ is a pretty big episode that had even more during the end credits and after. We are treated with Annie’s appearance once again who is brought into the world out of her will. She accepted her fate four years ago as not being able to see her father again. Revealing being somewhat aware of the times and put into thought of her actions as a Warrior. We learn about her upbringing and motivation, desiring that in the end of times to reconnect with her adopted father. Elsewhere, chaos continues in Paradis as some accept Eren as their savior while others just want to run to safety. In Liberio, Eldians desperate to flee from the oncoming march of death as Marley remains oblivious. Finally, Connie and Flaco speed to a plan that appears fragile and with potential to fail. Hange and Levi appear again after seemingly dying many episodes ago to new allies with Pieck and General Magath. Overall, the episode is great as it continues to set up the various character’s situation in the on-going crisis. What will happen as questions keep being propped up after the other?

It earns a 4 out of 5.
