Attack On Titan ‘Night Of The End’ Review

Released this week, episode 84 of Attack on Titan premiered titled ‘Night of the End.’

Beginning with a fantasy from Jean in where Paradis lives in peace, he’s married with an unknown female and they have a child together. That fantasy soon fades we it turns out to be a flashback, Jean is visited by Hange who explains what they’ve been told from Mikasa. In a conversation, Hange tries to get Mikasa and Jean to their side in agreeing that Eren’s actions is genocidal on a global scale. Transition afterward to somewhere in the forest, the small group comprising of Marleyeans and Scouts having agree to an unsteady alliance to deal with Eren. The episode at this point have both sides share their disagreements of the past, justifying each other’s faction’s actions and so forth. Hange remains as somewhat the mediator and is light-heart between the two factions. However, between the two is one person that both sides agree is somewhat an issue and that is Yelena. Pieck in her Cart Titan form reveals that Yelena faked her background by stating she was a conquered Marleyean. Pieck reveals that Yelena is a Marleyean all along but had fantasies of glory and given the chance by Zeke Jaeger to help Eldians as she took it. Yelena orchestrated herself into Zeke’s plan and helped the Jaeger brothers get closer by giving all the info she knew of Marley to Eren. Yelena fires back by explaining each group member’s participation in the war claiming innocent lives. Jean is finally told about Marco, who he’s been haunted ever since. Reiner and Annie explain and apologize as Jean at first appears to want the conversation dropped. However Reiner continues, Jean gets up and mercilessly beats him but Gabi jumps in Reiner’s body only to get kicked by Jean. Gabi apologizes for the Eldians in Marley, Falco jumps in and the two beg Jean to help them save Liberio. Proceeding to the following day, Jean apologizes to Gabi but denies to do so to Reiner. As their convoy approaches near a port holding an airship, the Cart Titan rushes to them after conducting a reconnaissance. Pieck explains that Jaegerists are holding the port and one of the Azumabito hostage, preparing for their arrival.

‘Night of the End’ is a somber episode giving us a pause and reflection from all the previous seasons in preparation for the future. Giving each person from either faction of the war a sense of understanding and acceptance of the past and for what the group needs to become clearheaded in the coming battle. One of the biggest topic revealed was for Jean learning about Marco’s fate. Demonstrating us that not one side is clearly good in the opposing one due to their actions. Also, mentioning that Hange and even the recovering Levi giving such a seriously somber episode light-hearted jabs for those moments. At episode’s end, the convoy needs to prepare on out how to get to the airship guarded by the Jaegerists. Being critical to their plan to find Eren high in the sky and get to him quickly to stop the Rumbling from approaching Marley.

It earns a 4 out of 5.
